MLR Week 3 Wrap-Up
Toronto Arrows 23 – 19 Austin Elite Rugby
The Toronto Arrows picked up their first-ever Major League Rugby victory on Friday night, defeating Austin Elite Rugby 23-19.
Toronto (1-1), trailing 19-18 with just over five minutes to play, was propelled to victory by their captain Dan Moor, who recovered an Austin (0-3) kick that he charged down in the try zone for what would ultimately be the deciding score in the match.
In addition to Moor’s match-winning try, the Arrows benefited from tries from Avery Oitomen and Kolby Francis while Austin Elite depended heavily on the foot of fly-half Timothee Guillimin who lead all scorers with 11 points. Scrum-half Marcello Torrealba scored Austin’s only try of the match.
Toronto’s win places them third in the standings with six points while Austin’s loss places them in ninth place with two points.
Austin will host the Glendale Raptors (0-2) next weekend while Toronto will travel to Seattle to take on the Seawolves (1-2) in a match that carries some crucial standing implications.
NOLA Gold 41 – 31 Seattle Seawolves
NOLA Gold’s undefeated season rolled on Sunday afternoon as they picked up a 41-31 win over the defending champion Seattle Seawolves.
NOLA (3-0) used an offensive explosion for their third-straight week to defeat Seattle (1-2) to remain one of three unbeaten sides left in Major League Rugby. The Gold have managed to post an impressive +24 point differential in a season that has featured nothing but competitive matches across the league.
Wins over the Toronto Arrows, Glendale Raptors and Seawolves in the first three weeks have the Gold sitting alone atop the MLR tables while Seattle, even with consecutive losses, sits in fourth place.
Seattle will look to get back in the win column next week as they’ll host the Toronto Arrows (1-1) while NOLA will try to stay red hot against the visiting Rugby United New York (1-0).
