MLR Rugby Producer & Production Manager / Director

MLR seeks an individual to lead all rugby production efforts, including: establishing standards and reviewing performance against the same; talent selection and development; vendor selection and management; etc. The selected individual will report to the Commissioner’s office and have overall responsibility for delivering high quality, entertaining, rugby productions, on budget.

While elements of the job description may vary depending on the selected candidate, core responsibilities would likely include:

  • oversee all CBSSN productions and matches and manage production relationship with CBSSN
  • conduct a comprehensive review of all MLR matches produced in 2018
  • review 2018 broadcast and production invoices and legal arrangements
  • establish a new set of broadcast standards for 2019 MLR coverage across all MLR distribution platforms
  • write a MLR Production Manual to document & routinize the 2019 broadcast standards & productions
  • develop above & below the line talent & key staff for continuity of editorial quality across all distribution
  • include broadcast production efficiency considerations into the MLR match scheduling process
  • appoint the production company (or companies) that are to deliver the games
  • together with production companies selected, source and train staff in all markets
  • liaise & coordinate with TV networks and digital partners that distribute MLR content globally
  • vet rugby data partners for live gathering of data & maintaining of MLR statistical database
  • arrange for match highlights to be delivered on League website and app
  • advise the teams on match highlights for their websites
  • develop a weekly league highlights show for on-line and broadcast distribution
  • advise the teams on best practices on how to produce a highlight show for local distribution

Experience should include:

  • Substantial experience producing & directing rugby (10 plus years of network TV work);
  • Proven ability to lead broadcast teams to create great rugby TV content
  • World-Class command of rugby-specific broadcast knowledge to lead the MLR editorial.
